Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design seeks qualified applicants for positions for the fall 2019 semester in Foundation Studies. Candidates must have experience working with first-year college students in Studio Art courses.  The curriculum in Foundation Studies serves RMCAD’s BFA degrees in Animation, Art Education, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Game Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, and Photography. Successful candidates will be part of a growing and dynamic community of diverse educators and practicing artists. RMCAD is a premier college with a population of approximately 1100 students. We are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, NASAD, and CIDA offering degrees in fine and applied arts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach first-year students Studio Art within the Foundation Studies program.

  • Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics.

  • Support students in their academic pursuits through one-on-one meetings in class and office hours.

  • Attend faculty mentoring, support, and curriculum building meetings in advance of the fall semester.

  • Deliver instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes for student success.

  • Record class attendance in Faculty Portal and submit midterm/final grades by the due date specified.

  • Provides timely and periodic feedback to students on assignments and participation.

  • Attend required training sessions, faculty, and departmental meetings.

  • Comply with administrative and classroom management policies, procedures and instructional deadlines. 

  • Executes assessment practices when necessary.

  • Successfully complete the online Faculty Certification Course, a two-week faculty online orientation and certification class administered through RMCAD’s Learning Management System. 

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have an MFA in a Fine Arts or a Design field only.

  • Candidates must have a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the college level.

  • Other responsibilities include supporting the student-centered paradigm and working collaboratively across the college in support of the institution’s mission and values.

  • Foundations consist of nine courses that include drawing, design, time-based media, and ideation. Applicants must have significant expertise demonstrated through a portfolio in one or more of the following courses.

    • Seminar: Methods of Inquiry (ideation and strategies of making)

    • Drawing 1 + Drawing Lab (observational drawing)

    • Drawing 2 (observational and experimental drawing)

    • Topics in Color (color theory)

    • 2D Design: Elements + Principles + Design Lab (taught using Photoshop and Illustrator)

    • 3D Design: Space and Materiality (wood shop, casting, and material exploration)

    • 4D Design: Stills to Motion (ephemeral works, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects) 

    • Life Drawing 1 (introduction to figure drawing, skeletal structures) 

    • 1380, Life Drawing 2 (figure drawing, muscular structures, narrative)
